Cuyuna über volunteer John Schaubach wins the raffle for the Trek X-Caliber 29er

John Schaubach, CLMTB Crew volunteer Trek X-Caliber - raffle prize
John Schaubach, a fellow geezer and a volunteer with the CLMTB Crew (responsible for maintaining the Trout and Man Cage trails) was one of many local volunteers helping to put on the Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Festival this weekend.  Evidently he’s been one of the many Cuyuna locals who has put in countless volunteer hours to help make the park a reality.

So a big cheer went out on Saturday night when his name was drawn for the raffle of the Trek X-Caliber 29er. Nice bike. I have one and love it.

Congrats to John, He began volunteering 8+ years ago and was one of the first people I met when we started dreaming about putting mountain bike trails in those old mine piles. I think Steve Weber even insisted that I meet John before I left town on that my very first visit to see the Cuyuna Recreation Area. No one is more deserving than John Schaubach!!

Tim, you’ll be happy to know that John frequently mentioned you in miscellaneous discussions today. He and Aaron Hautala came down for tonight’s MORC board meeting but spent 3.5 hours riding every trail at Leb this afternoon with me, Reed Smidt, and Todd Oryiola. I walked them through the soon-to-be-opened skills park, too.

John and Aaron have never ridden anywhere besides Cuyuna so Leb was a real learning experience, and a generator of ideas for what else they might do up there.
